To all our DesignMind members,
It's August and things are heating up! The weather is slowly getting warmer and DesignMind is embarking on some exciting new initiatives!
Last month DesignMind explored colour- in accordance with this we have teamed up with Lisa Taylor to discover a less westernized approach to colour in design. For more on our exciting new project join the group here
This month we've chosen a colour, and it's green! DesignMind in August explores going 'green' and our newsletter highlights some of the most interesting, innovative and exciting Green blogs, groups and more!
We have also launched our Free Internet Research Service which allows DesignMind members to submit topics that they require information on to our search team. The team then uses powerful tools to source useful online links which we publish on DesignMind. To learn more about how you can benefit from this service read our blog here.

Green living at Decorex Joburg
With close on 52 000 visitors flocking through its doors - an astounding 25% more than the previous year - Decorex Joburg confirmed that the South African decor and design industry is alive and well, walking with a new-found swagger, showing pride in its own abilities and confidence in the future.
Sponsored by Plascon with DStv as media partner, Decorex Joburg celebrated its sixteenth exhibition at Gallagher Convention Centre with a sell-out show and highly satisfied exhibitors. The South African Handmade Collection, the trade craft expo organised by the dti, once again co-located with Decorex.
Says Melanie Robinson, director Decorex SA: “Not even a flattened economy could dampen the enthusiasm of our exhibitors and visitors. It is clear that our strategy to combine excellent value with innovation was right on the money. Visitors expected something special, cost-saving and trend-driven, which our exhibitors delivered in true form.”
She added that in times of an economic downswing consumers shop around a lot more significantly. “They are also a lot more discerning when making purchasing decisions. Having such a plethora of choices under one roof made Decorex Joburg the best place to shop for quality products at bargain prices, ranging from high-ticket items and investment pieces to smaller appliances and decor items.”

Understanding the GBCSA and Green Star rating:

The Green Building Council SA is striving to promote, encourage and facilitate green building in the South African property industry through market-based solutions.
Green Star SA Certification is a formal process which involves a project using a Green Star SA rating tool to guide the design or construction process, during which a documentation-based submission will need to be collated as proof of this achievement.
Design vs. As Built Certification
Most rating tools offer two different certifications: “Design” and “As Built”. A “Design” certification can be submitted for and awarded at the end of the design phase of the project. The intent is that the building can then be marketed as a Green Star SA certified building, having demonstrated the green building strategies to be included in the building. At the end of construction, a project can submit for and be awarded “As Built” certification, certifying that all green building strategies were in fact incorporated into the final building. The two types of certification are completely separate, and a Design certification is not a prerequisite for an As Built certification.
