Editors Note

This past week has been a rather busy one for the DesignMind team. It would seem that this is the season for a stream of industry events.

The Green Building Conference and Exhibition was held at the Sandton Convention Centre last week was reportedly a great success. According to the Green Building Council, the idea behind it was that consumers’ environmental awareness and interest had been increasing for some time, and corporate tenants and residential homeowners were demanding green initiatives in the design, construction and operation of buildings.

In this case, builders were increasingly seeking to design and implement green practices, and companies were seeking to enhance their corporate social responsibility and market differentiation, and found that green buildings provided a way to meet the expectations of socially-aware stakeholders, and respond to the effects of the built environment on the natural environment.

Another exciting event in the pipeline is the upcoming 2011 Conversations on Architecture, hosted by Decorex which will take place in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. The diverse line-up of local industry players will put the searchlight on contemporary issues in the architectural field and by doing so, aim to educate and inspire in equal measure. Paradigm shifts will be debated, new technologies presented and the core design principles of the respective design fields explored. Please visit the Upcoming Events page on DesignMind for more information and watch your profile wall for more posts.

There have also been several new job opportunities uploaded, so check out the Market Place section for these details.

Again, the DesignMind team would like to encourage you to visit your profile and update information on your business / company as regularly as possible and also to send us any news you may have and we will post it for you. Alternatively, you can click on the “blog” section and post your own articles which are relevant to the Architectural and Design industry.

Hope to see you on-site!

Claire
