Ed's Note

This week has been particularly eventful for us, as we bring you a brand new version of BuildMind! The new site offers members a much easier and faster way to stay connected to building and construction industry professionals. And a simpler way to share and find leads and opportunities, follow industry related information, trends and opinions all in one simple networking space.

Improvements to the search engine have required us to transport the site onto a new platform, which holds many advantages for you in terms of ease of use and functionality. Visit the site today and see for yourself.

Amidst the many plusses of this new product, we will unfortunately have to ask you to take a minute to transfer your profile data over to the new site, so that you can be found quickly and immediately start networking with peers and like-minded professionals.

All you have to do is go to www.buildmind.co and click on “sign up or sign in” and fill in your profile information. You can do this both for you as the individual or for your organization.

The new “Marketplace” function makes it simple to match the needs and wants for services, products and information to those who supply it. The addition of a BuildMind “Forum” gives each industry profession a place to air opinions on issues that impact the industry people. And the introduction of the “Answers” function gives members an easy way for members to tap in to the networks knowledge and expertise in seconds (read about this in more detail further down).

We also talk about geo-mapping. The new site makes it so easy to plot your location on Google’s map. [Just type in your street and suburb and it does it for you!] By doing this you make it easy for people to find you in a region – and it bolsters your listing on search engines.

Please also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Google + for up to date news, events and activity feeds. Oh, and you can access all of this BuildMind information straight from your mobile phone and iPad too!

You can now also subscribe to your choice of Thought Leaders and other members’ posts that you would like to follow and interact with. [And if you’d like to become a Thought Leader on BuildMind mail us on info@builmind.co.za and we’ll tell you how our Thought Leader Programme works.]

We welcome all feedback, so please send us a mail at info@builmind.co.za. We use feedback to continuously refine our thinking and our service to the network. For any advertising-related queries, please send a mail to sheenaghd@virtualworks.co.za

Thanks to the continued sponsorship of PPC Cement, the new networking service remains free to building and construction industry professionals.

Happy networking!

A Message from the Admin Team:

The new BuildMind site is live – have you ported your profile?

Is your new BuildMind profile presenting the right information to the thousands of people who visit us monthly? After our upgrade, it might not be...

Improvements to the search engine have required us to port the site onto a new platform, but that holds many advantages for you in terms of ease of use and functionality. Visit the site today and see for yourself.

Amidst the many advantages of this new product, we do unfortunately have to ask you to take a minute to transfer your profile data over to the new site.

Your current profile will now be missing data and may be presenting outdated to people who visit your profile. This also means that you're likely to miss out on contacts, opportunities and information that should be finding you.

To ensure your profile presents correctly to over thousands of monthly visitors, please check and update your profile as quickly as possible. It'll only take you a minute to do and it'll ensure you stay connected to the industry network for free. Simply visit www.buildmind.co and click on My Profile. Use the Edit function on your profile page to change and add profile data. If you get stuck, mail us on info@builmind.co.za. or call us on +27 011 525 9380.

Geotag your business location

By putting an address into the sites mapping function, you'll get pinned on the map instantly. Make it easy to find your services, products and skills by region by adding your location here.

For those of you who are not entirely familiar with the term, Wikipedia explains it as this: “Geotagging can help users find a wide variety of location-specific information. For instance, one can find images taken near a given location by entering latitude and longitude coordinates into a suitable image search engine.

Geotagging-enabled information services can also potentially be used to find location-based news, websites, or other resources. Geotagging can tell users the location of the content of a given picture or other media or the point of view, and conversely on some media platforms show media relevant to a given location.”

Collaborating on BuildMind

What is Answers? “Answers” is a function that makes it easy for you to ask the BuildMind community to share information, advice and expertise. It’s a fast and simple way to tap in to the knowledge base that people in the BuildMind network have – and to solve your challenges. If you’re looking to find out how to do something, or trying to find information or source something - or you’re just looking for a reference or advice, post it in the Answers section. Someone in the network is sure to let you know how they can help.

How do I ask for something in Answers? Simply click on “Answers” in the sub menu under the “Collaborate” section of the site. Type in your question and post it to a category. Your question immediately appears in the Answers section of the site – visible to the network.

How do I see the answers I get? You’ll get alerted to responses to your questions in your Inbox. Or open up your question on the site to track the answers you get. [NB: Check to ensure that your Inbox has accepted notifications and BuildMind to avoid responses to your questions getting blocked by your Inbox or routed to your Inbox junk mail.]
